Step 1. Tree Height

Height is the go-to adjective that customers use when describing their tree. An important one at that. But, what justifies a big tree? So that we can all speak the same language, we created this simple diagram. Generally, taller trees cost more — but other factors (like width and obstacles) can impact price more.

Step 2. Path between Tree and Parking

How far is the tree from where our truck and equipment can park? The farther we have to carry wood and equipment, the more labor and time the job requires. To make this easier to picture, we use the length of a school bus as a reference. If the tree is close to the driveway or road, removal is quicker and more efficient. If it’s deep in the backyard with limited access, it increases labor and overall cost.

Step 3. Tree Width

Believe it or not, the diameter of a tree oftentimes contributes more to increasing the price point than the height of a tree. This is because wider diameter trees oftentimes results in needing larger equipment to move the tree. Larger equipment equals more overhead cost. In some situations equipment cannot get into the property which further adds to the complexity.

Step 4. Condition of Tree

Is the tree dead or alive? Are there cracks or cavities in the tree? Are there any mushrooms present? Is the tree on a bad lean? These are a few things to consider when weighing the health of the tree. A tree in poor condition requires precise planning and execution for the safety of everything and everyone involved.

Step 5. Obstacles Under Canopy

What is located underneath the tree? Think of absolutely everything that is located underneath the tree (ie. shed, fence, pool, house, deck, playground, garden, hydro, etc.). The more things under the tree canopy, the more challenging the removal becomes.

Back

Step 6. Access

Access to the tree can help or hinder our ability to get equipment and/or branches between the tree and our truck. Measure the distance heel-to-toe at the NARROWEST point of access to the tree. This is less applicable for front yard trees as it is to backyard/sideyard trees.
